BREATHAIR® is a washable cushion material with excellent durability. The fibers in BREATHAIR® are arranged in a complex three-dimensional structure. One way to describe the appearance of the fibers is that they appear similar in structure to a block of instant noodles made from white plastic.

BREATHAIR® has low hysteresis loss and high rebound properties when used as a cushion or pillow material. When used in mattresses or in pillows, these properties make it easy to turn with comfort. BREATHAIR® does not concentrate stress, it has outstanding load dispersal and strong rebound characteristics that make it easy for you to turn in your sleep.


BREATHAIR® is environmentally friendly and only a very small amount of toxic gas is released when BREATHAIR® is burned.


BREATHAIR® is made from polyester-elastomers. In the unlikely event of it catching fire and burning, the amount of toxic hydrogen cyanide released will be small. On the other hand, polyurethane, another widely used cushion material, releases much more toxic hydrogen cyanide than BREATHAIR® when it burns. Consequently landfill disposal is necessary. There is a growing awareness that toxic gas is an issue in the event of fire in confined or sealed spaces and there is an increase in the demand for materials that do not release toxic gases when they burn.

Antibacterial Performance
The structure of BREATHAIR® consists of a series of continuous fiber loops and there is no fiber dust which bed mites need to propagate. BREATHAIR® also has excellent anti-bacterial function as evidenced by the fact that BREATHAIR® meets the SEK standards. Because BREATHAIR® is made from polyester-elastomer the amount of toxic hydrogen cyanide gas released when it is burnt is very small.


The durability of BREATHAIR® has been tested using two different methods:

a). Measurement: Compression of 50% at 70°C.

b). Samples were subjected to 80 000 cycles of compression to 50% and release at room temperature.

Water Permeability

BREATHAIR® is washable and dries very quickly in comparison to other materials.

Air Permeability

BREATHAIR® displays a remarkably high level of air permeability, much more than is shown by polyurethane foam or polyester fiber cushion material. Toyobo uses a skin model method to measure the temperature and humidity between a sleeping body and the mattress. These mattresses are cool in summer, and when enclosed in a mattress cover they can also retain heat and remain comfortable in winter.
